Dr. Lisa Jones-Engel, a former primate researcher now a PETA scientist, tells Emil Guillermo how a reliance on monkeys as scientific models has delayed the development of an effective HIV vaccine for people. After nearly 40 years, hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars and at least a million dead monkeys, humans around the globe are still waiting for an HIV vaccine that works. A better approach is to adopt modern science techniques like those outlined in PETA's Research Modernization Deal.
