On the heels of an announcement from retailer Canada Goose, Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman have announced they will stop selling fur by 2023. The news is yet another historic victory for grassroots activists and PETA which have been fighting on behalf of the animals for decades. Dan Mathews was there at the very first "I'd rather go naked than wear fur" campaign, and talks about how the protest began, evolved and ultimately became victorious. Mathews talks about why it's all happening now; how celebrities were used; and how fashion houses, icons, and retailers ultimately gave in to the pressure and the times. Mathews also talks about protest, getting arrested, and spending time in jail. He also talks about the history of animal rights and how it's relatable to all minority groups, LGBTQ-Plus, Black, Indigenous, People of Color who find themselves on the margins fighting for justice. This show combines interviews from two PETA Podcasts, ep. 15, and ep. 92. They are a salute to Dan who has decided to leave his day-to-day post as a senior VP,  but remain as a board member of PETA France. It's a thank you to Dan and all he's done for more than three decades at PETA.
