Jun 26, 2019
The large number of horse racing deaths since December at Santa Anita in California has made the cruelty of horse racing big news in 2019. As of June 25, 30 horses have died. PETA efforts have brought on a DA's investigation, the banning of a Hall of Fame trainer, and tough new rules at Santa Anita. Legislative action is also pending that would impact all race tracks in the state, and make California the state with the strongest anti-cruelty policies in the nation.
Kathy Guillermo, PETA Sr. VP, talks about how PETA is leading the fight to end the cruelty of horse racing.
UPDATE: The New York Racing Association follows Santa Anita's action and bans Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.
